Metallic Iron for Water Treatment: Lost Science in the West
نویسنده
چکیده
Voltaire (1694-1778), the French philosopher said: “There are many ways to waste own time: Doing nothing, doing the wrong thing, doing the good thing at the wrong time” (own translation). The situation is quite different if the time is robbed by someone else or even by a professional mistake. There is a clear evidence that researchers on metallic iron (Fe0 termed as zero-valent iron) for water treatment as performed for the past three decades have wasted time in wrongly rediscovering aspects carefully documented in the scientific literature [1,2] and textbooks [3,4] before 1940.

Metallic iron for water treatment: Healing a research community
Despite two decades of intensive research on using metallic iron (Fe) for environmental remediation and water treatment, basic concerns about their efficiency still prevail. This communication presents the basic idea of the view that challenges the prevailing paradigm on the operating mode of Fe/H2O systems. The alternative paradigm is in tune with the mainstream science on aqueous iron corrosi...

In order to evaluate the effect of different amounts of iron and manganese sulfates on wheat yield (Chamran cultivar), a factorial experiment based a randomized complete block design with three replications. The experiment treatments consisted of different concentrations of iron sulfate )Including; zero, 1500, and 3000 grams per hectare) and manganese sulfate (Including; zero, 1500, and 3000 gr...
متن کاملMetallic iron for water treatment: A critical revie
Water treatment with metallic iron (Fe) is still based on the premise that Fe is a reducing agent. An alternative concept stipulates that contaminants are removed by adsorption, co-precipitation and size-exclusion in a reactive filtration process. This article underlines the universal validity of the alternative concept. It is shown that admixing non-expansive material to Fe as a pre-requisite ...
متن کاملTrimetallic Pd/Fe/Al particles for catalytic dechlorination of chlorinated organic contaminants.
Zero-valent aluminum based trimetallic particles comprising a combination of catalytically effective amounts (1 wt%) of palladium and zero-valent iron on the aluminum surface were synthesized and tested for the dechlorination of chlorinated methanes in batch reactors. XRD analysis indicated the trimetallic particles present in zero-valent form of all three components. Trimetallic Pd/Fe/Al parti...
